C++ Default Guidelines

An opinionated set of default guidelines for writing better, simpler C++.

C++ · Guidelines · MIT

Summary

A compact set of 18 core guidelines — such as enabling compiler warnings, avoiding raw loops, managing resources with RAII and avoiding owning raw pointers — each with an explanation and references to the C++ Core Guidelines and well-known experts like Scott Meyers and Jason Turner.

Purpose

Big guideline collections are comprehensive but can be overwhelming. Default guidelines are better than just guidelines: they are opinionated and give direction. The rule is comply or explain — follow the default, or be able to justify why you deviate. The aim is simpler code with fewer surprises.
