Oscilloscope-style visualization of log data: treat telemetry streams as signals over time.
Python · TypeScript · MIT
Summary
TimeLens is a browser-based tool for exploring time-series telemetry. It reads Chrome trace-event logs and lets you zoom from microseconds to hours, compare signals side by side and measure the timing between events.
Quick Installation
wget http://nullptr.nl/install/timelens
Temporary installation:
source ./timelens (as a user, will install in /tmp/timelens)
Or sudo source ./timelens -u <user> -i <dir> will install in <dir> and give ownership to the <user>.
Purpose
Large logs are impractical to read line by line. TimeLens helps developers and systems engineers find timing relationships, performance patterns and anomalies by looking at the data the way hardware engineers look at a scope trace.
Key features
- Zoomable, pannable timeline
- Multiple simultaneous views to compare signals
- Oscilloscope-like triggers
- Server-side log processing with filtering rules and profiles
- Network discovery of other TimeLens instances
- Command-line summary statistics
Technology
Python backend (FastAPI + uvicorn) with a TypeScript front-end over WebSockets. Runs on Windows and Linux. MIT licensed. A natural companion to DebugVision.
